About PACT
The Positive Anti-Crime Thrust (PACT) was incorporated in 1979 as the programmatic arm of the Afro-American Patrolman’s League, focused on activism and program implementation that targeted community control of police. As our experience has grown, so too has our mission. Recognizing the interdependencies of Police, Courts and Corrections, their influence and impact on the African-American community, and further, the lack of a cohesive community approach to addressing concerns and issues within these institutions, PACT has developed a holistic strategy of redress.
With a long history of successful program development and implementation (PACT Timeline) our current focus is on three major areas.
-
Community / Police Relations As strong believers in community justice, we are committed to the development and implementations of programs that enhance community control of their public safety.
- Equal Justice Under Law We work to enhance the fair disbursement of justice and advocate positions on laws that adversely and/or positively affect our community. Further, as an information driven organization, we educate the community to enhance their understanding of the law and their rights.
- Prisons and "Corrections" There must be a "corrections" or rehabilitation component to our prison system. A major strategy thrust for PACT is to reduce recidivism, and its dramatic impact on community safety, by partnering with like minded organizations and institutions on a holistic approach to education and self-development within the prison population.
